SAKSHAM 2026: Fuel Conservation Campaign
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, through various Oil and Gas PSUs, has launched SAKSHAM 2026 (Samrakshan Kshamatha Mahotsav). This annual flagship event aims to create intense awareness about the fuel conservation needed for the health of our environment.

Key Highlights
- 📅 Duration: 2nd - 16th February 2026 (Fortnight-long).
- 🎯 Objective: Reduce carbon footprint & support India's energy transition.
- 🚴 Activities: Cyclothons, Walkathons, wall paintings, debates, workshops, and seminars.
- 👥 Target Groups: A broad spectrum including school children, youth, LPG consumers, farmers, fleet operators, and industrial stakeholders.
Project Himank: Guardians of the High Himalayas
A rare Snow Leopard 🐆 was sighted during Project Himank activities in Ladakh, highlighting that infrastructure can coexist with nature. This sighting brings attention to the delicate ecological balance in the high Himalayas.
About Project Himank
BRO Context: Established on May 7, 1960, and operating under the Ministry of Defence since 2015, BRO maintains assets across 19 states and 3 UTs.
- 📍 Region: Ladakh (Strategic border area near LAC).
- 🛣️ Mandate: Maintaining ~2,216 km of roads, including critical passes like Khardung La, Tanglang La, and Chang La.
- 🏆 Feat: Built the world's highest motorable road at Mig La Pass (19,400 ft).
PM VIKAS Scheme
Pradhan Mantri Virasat Ka Samvardhan is a Central Sector Scheme by the Ministry of Minority Affairs focusing on socio-economic empowerment. It targets the 6 notified minority communities along with artisans, women, and youth.
Uses Hub-and-Spoke model to link artisans to global markets, with support from NMDFC (Financial) and EPCH (Market Linkages).
Early Heart Attack Detection
Scientists from BITS and RMIT University have developed a flexible biosensor to detect Myoglobin, a protein released when muscles are damaged.
🔬 Why Myoglobin?
Unlike Hemoglobin (which has 4 chains), Myoglobin has only 1 polypeptide chain. Its primary functions include storing oxygen in muscles and decomposing Nitric Oxide.
- Rapidly enters bloodstream after heart injury.
- Filtered out by kidneys into urine (non-invasive test potential).
Dholpur-Karauli Tiger Reserve
Rajasthan govt ensures no forced displacement. Notified in 2023, it is India's 54th Tiger Reserve.
- 📏 Area: ~1,111 sq km in Eastern Rajasthan.
- 🌳 Terrain: Unique Ravines, plateaus, and dry deciduous forests dominated by 'Dhok' trees. It sits at the confluence of the Aravalli and Vindhyan hill ranges.
- 🦊 Fauna: Tigers, wolves, sloth bears, and 250+ bird species.
Devnimori Relics & Sri Lanka
Sacred Lord Buddha relics from Gujarat are being sent to Sri Lanka for exposition. The site was scientifically explored in 1957 by archaeologist S.N. Chowdhry.
Volcán de Fuego (Guatemala)
A Stratovolcano (3,763m elevation) on the Pacific Ring of Fire. It sits between the Acatenango and Agua volcanoes.
Known as the "Volcano of Fire", it is highly explosive due to viscous magma. Its 2018 eruption was particularly devastating, causing 194 deaths.
Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR)
DRDO successfully tested SFDR technology. Unlike standard missiles, it carries no oxidizer, making it lighter and more efficient.
Strategic Edge: It places India in an elite global club of nations with this technology, enabling long-range air-to-air missiles with high maneuverability.
UP's Mahabharata Circuit
15 sites will be developed as "experiential cultural destinations". Key focus is on Hastinapur (Meerut), the Kuru capital.

- Vidur Tila: Associated with Vidura.
- Draupadi Ghat: Linked to Mahabharata legends along the Ganga.
- Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary: Adds an eco-tourism dimension.
